Ferals and Familiars is a band from Everett, a small coastal city on the western edge of Washington state. Founded by Bret and Susan Harwood, the group features a rotating lineup of guitar and bass players—including Richard Bradley and Ronnie Dalesio. Their sound is a quirky, genre-blending mix of alternative, country, rock, shoegaze, 80s pop, new wave, dance, and more—an eclectic fusion that defies easy categorization.

Bret Harwood began his musical journey at age 10 with the trombone, later shifting to drums in high school. From the mid-80s to mid-90s, he played in various Houston bands including Third Person, December's Child, and Thomas Ayresol. After relocating to Seattle in 1996, he continued drumming with groups like Below Sound and Shades of Red. While drumming and producing remain his core passions, Bret also brings rich vocal harmonies and backing vocals to the mix.

Susan Harwood’s musical roots trace back to childhood piano lessons and singing. Raised by two accomplished country musicians, she was performing with her parents from a young age. With the support of her husband, she began writing original songs inspired by her wide-ranging musical influences, adding heartfelt lyrics and melodic depth to the band’s sound.

Ferals and Familiars released their self-titled debut album in June 2024. Their follow-up, Wild Love, is slated for release in early 2026—an evolution of their sonic palette that explores themes of longing, transformation, and the strange beauty of connection.
